After using a Screen Tablet for years the day to day grind just took too much out of my neck and shoulder. I had to switch back to an Intuos. However I went with a Large this time also I put it up on a tablet stand to give me a better angle while working. With the larger work area and it not being flat on the desk, it allows me to continue to use my arm and shoulder instead of just the wrist while working. Paired with a good BenQ monitor, it's hard to leave my current set up but I admit I miss the connection a screen tablet gives you.

Am i right, that you've doing a flat colours under the sketch layer, but when the base is set, you've moved on above the sketch layer to focus on the rendering?

Is it just me or does the thumbnail look a bit like Stevie from Good Mythical Morning?

I just painted my first crystal then went further and made a crystal phial with lighting in it. I really wish that you slowed down just a bit so I can see how you choose the brushes and effects I had to keep stopping it but it was definitely helpful in learning the basic.

Do you post refs?

I think people who judge like that don't have a great imagination (yet). I have always had that imaginative creation process so references were helpers but the end product wasn't a copy/study of the reference. This was mostly the case on all my art classes. My peers didn't create from imagination, it was mostly studies. Maybe it is just how some people are wired and they can work their way to see beyond what's real? Just the same for people who lack the anatomy perspective skill (like myself!)

@Paintable much like yourself, years ago I purchased a graphics tablet for use on a videogames degree, but I never felt it worked naturally compared to a pencil and paper. So this past year, I got the Huion Kamvas 24 Pro 4K and have been learning to use that, and I fully appreciate the change. Its large canvas also helps me with my Motor Dysgraphia.

I also unfortunately have aphantasia, so I cant picture how faces and bodies can be proportioned visually, and references really help me with that. Ill use like 5-6 for a single pose in some instances just to get what Im looking for. Some things I know logically, like a body being six lengths of the head etc… but foreshortening and perspective is difficult on my own

Exactly. Even the imaginations use reference pictures 😅😅

Your brain cant always fully comprehend certain details of things you may be trying to draw pr sculpt, references arent cheating in art theyre there to help you be precise.

You gotta build your visual library at first, which requires using references. I'd say eventually you'll find yourself moving past references except for very specific things.

Do abstract art without references. Normally though, give yourself a hand and get something that looks like what you want to make.

Sketching is easier on the pc, and harder in real life for me, paper deg obvious issue there, and coloring is easier in real life, coloring on the pc is harder for me. lol
